A saddle stitched book needs to have a multiple of 4 pages in order to saddle stitch. Each piece of paper, front and back, is 4 pages. For instance, Front Cover, Inside Front Cover, Inside Back Cover and Back Cover, we call this a signature. Each signature has 4 pages, so they can be folded and stitched together with staples.
