C&D Printing & Packaging manufactures folding cartons and custom printed packaging for brands that need reliable quality, responsive service, and consistent results. We specialize in short-run and mid-run production for retail packaging, food and beverage cartons, pharmaceutical packaging, and commercial printing applications.
Our facility handles the complete process—from structural design support through offset printing, die-cutting, gluing, and finishing. We work with brands, co-packers, and product developers who need packaging that performs on shelf and throughout the supply chain.
What We Manufacture
Folding Cartons
Folding cartons are paperboard boxes that ship flat and fold into shape during packaging operations. They’re the primary packaging format for consumer goods across retail, food service, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. We produce folding cartons in SBS (solid bleached sulfate), CUK (coated unbleached kraft), and CCN (clay-coated newsback) substrates, with offset printing up to six colors plus coatings.
Custom Printed Packaging
Every carton we produce is printed to customer specifications. We handle brand graphics, regulatory text, barcodes, and variable data. Our prepress team manages file preparation, color matching, and plate production. Finishing options include aqueous coating, UV coating, soft-touch lamination, foil stamping, and embossing.
Retail Packaging
Retail cartons need to protect product, communicate brand identity, and function in automated packaging lines. We design and manufacture cartons for shelf-ready packaging, club store displays, and e-commerce applications. Our structural design support helps brands optimize carton performance while controlling material costs.
Food & Beverage Carton Packaging
Food contact packaging requires specific substrates, coatings, and manufacturing controls. We produce cartons for dry goods, frozen foods, bakery items, snack foods, and beverage multipacks. Our facility maintains documentation systems that support customer food safety requirements and third-party audits.
Pharmaceutical and Regulated Packaging
Pharma cartons require precise manufacturing tolerances, material traceability, and validation documentation. We produce cartons for over-the-counter medications, medical devices, diagnostic kits, and supplement packaging. Our quality systems support customer validation protocols and regulatory compliance needs.
Short-Run Packaging Manufacturing
Short-run production means order quantities from 5,000 to 100,000 units. This production model serves brands in several situations:
• Product launches and market testing
• Seasonal or promotional packaging
• Regional variations and test markets
• Specialty retail programs
• Products with frequent design updates
We run short-run orders on the same equipment and quality standards as larger programs. Turnaround typically runs two to three weeks from approved files to finished cartons, with expedited options available for urgent requirements.
How Folding Cartons Are Made
Folding carton manufacturing follows a multi-step process:
Design and Structural Engineering
The carton design must account for product dimensions, weight, stacking requirements, and packaging line capabilities. We provide die-line templates and structural recommendations based on the application.
Prepress and Plate Production
Customer-supplied graphics are processed for print production. This includes color separation, trapping, file correction, and printing plate creation. We proof critical jobs on our digital press before committing to full production.
Offset Printing
Paperboard sheets run through offset lithographic presses. Each color requires a separate printing unit. Registration between colors must stay within tight tolerances to maintain image quality.
Die-Cutting
Printed sheets are die-cut to create the carton blank. Steel rule dies cut the perimeter and create fold scores. Stripping removes waste material.
Gluing
Carton blanks are folded and glued on folder-gluer equipment. The manufacturer’s joint (glue flap) is the only pre-formed seal. The carton ships flat and completes its shape when the customer erects it during packaging.
Quality Control
We inspect material throughout production. Final inspection verifies dimensions, print quality, fold integrity, and glue adhesion. Cartons are bundled and palletized to customer specifications.
Why Brands Choose Folding Cartons
Folding cartons offer several advantages compared to other packaging formats:
Versus Rigid Boxes: Folding cartons ship flat, reducing freight costs substantially. They’re faster to produce and more economical for most applications. Rigid boxes (set-up boxes) are reserved for luxury goods where premium presentation justifies higher costs.
Versus Corrugated Boxes: Folding cartons use denser paperboard substrates that allow high-quality printing and intricate die-cutting. Corrugated packaging excels in shipping protection but generally cannot achieve the print quality or structural detail that folding cartons provide.
Versus Flexible Packaging: Folding cartons provide structure, stacking strength, and billboard display area. They protect product better than pouches or bags in retail environments. Many products use both—a folding carton as outer packaging with flexible packaging inside.
